Fire breaks out at Tesla Gigafactory Berlin, detractors demand production stop
Berlin: A massive fire has broken out at the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin. A large pile of cardboard and wood catches fire at a factory recycling facility. Tesla’s fire brigade at Gigafactory Berlin called the local fire department in the city of Grunheide, where the plant is located, for help on Monday morning, reports automotive technology website Electrek. Tesla is recalling about 1.1 million vehicles to prevent drivers from getting their fingers stuck in the windows..
Information from the Oderland Regional Office reports that 800 cubic meters of paper, cardboard and wood ignited and caused the fire. Fortunately, no one was injured and the fire did not spread to other parts of the plant, the report said.
But now, critics of the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin project are calling for a fire to halt production. While the locals largely welcomed the project, there were a significant number of people who opposed Tesla setting up a factory at the site because of its impact on the local environment, particularly the drinking water supply. The civil initiative Grunheide, one of the groups still opposing the project, is calling for an immediate production halt.
