Honda recalls 563,700 old CR-Vs for excessive corrosion
2007-2011 Honda CR-V NHTSA said Thursday. In some cases, the rear frame is so corroded that Honda may offer to buy the vehicle back from the owner and remove the safety hazard from the road.
The recall is limited to certain states where road salt is used as a deicing agent. Salt buildup can corrode the structure of the entire rear frame and dislodge the trailing arms. Since the trailing arm connects the axle to the chassis, a detached arm poses a significant safety risk.

At the time, Honda decided that rear-frame corrosion from road salt wouldn’t affect the service life of his CR-V. This is because the United States has more paved roads than Canada and uses less salt and sand.
Honda acknowledged 61 customer complaints related to the issue, but said it was not aware of any crashes or injuries.
The recall is limited to 2007-2011 Honda CR-Vs sold or registered in the following states: , New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington DC, Wisconsin.
How can I fix my car?
Owners will be notified by email of the recall and advised to bring their CR-V to a Honda dealership for inspection. If the rear trailing arm bolt can be removed, the dealer will install a support his brace to reduce the risk of a crash should the arm fail. If the bolt comes off and the arm is removed together, Honda will either repair the entire frame or offer to buy the vehicle back. The same condition applies if the bolt is too rusty to remove. A refund will be issued to the owner who paid for the repair of the rear trailing arm.
