A standard dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain allows the motors to operate independently, so when the throttle is light, it powers the rear motor, but when the foot is heavy, the front asynchronous motor engages. The generously weighted steering and chunky, flat-bottomed steering wheel provided a solid, full feel through the tightest turns. It exceeded expectations, turning a leisurely scenic drive into a fun excursion through the hills. Much of the joy benefited not only from the quietness of the electric motor, but also from the whisper-quiet cabin where the extra sound insulation crushed road noise.

Find EQ Differences

Aside from minor styling differences and a charging port on the passenger side rear fender, the EQB looks a lot like the GLB. Rather than Mercedes’ giant Hyperscreen, which encapsulates three digital screens under a single piece of glass that spans a 56-inch dashboard, the EQB employs two 10.3-inch screens, one for the gauges and one for the gauges. The first is a touch screen for infotainment.

EQB electric vehicle signals are muted if not obscured. This differs from the larger EQ model Full Monty, which rides on his EVA2 platform exclusive to Mercedes. The steering wheel paddles flick between three regenerative braking settings indicated by small + or – icons on the gear selector display in the cluster. EV range: EQB overshadows new rivals

Exactly what these good intentions mean in terms of scope is still unclear. EPA has not certified her EQB, and Mercedes cites 260 miles of range on her WLTP cycle in generous Europe. That would likely equate to about 225 miles on an EPA cycle, and Mercedes has plans for a longer-range single-motor front-drive model later.

With a 400 volt electrical architecture, the EQB can DC fast charge up to 100 kw and regain a range of about 80 miles in 15 minutes (based on our estimates). A level 2 240 volt charger rated at 32 amps will take over 11 hours to fully charge. This is one way the EQB has become obsolete (like other larger EQ models). An 800 volt system allows faster charging. The next iteration of his EQ series on Mercedes’ EVA3 platform will feature a 900-volt architecture.

Price: Is the 2022 Mercedes EQB Worth It?

The GLB’s price difference is less pronounced, as it incorporates EQB’s standard features, such as twin 10.3-inch screens instead of the GLB 250’s relatively tiny 7.0-inch screen. Wireless smartphone connectivity and wireless phone charging also come standard. Install the front seat heater. The EQB comes standard with an augmented reality navigation system that displays arrows and signs overlaid on camera projections of real intersections and off-ramps. Using the console’s touchpad makes pinching or zooming the map view easier than using a touchscreen.

Also standard on the EQB and added on the GLB is Mercedes’ 64-colour ambient lighting system that lights up like the Vegas Strip. Consumer feedback has to be positive, but luckily all the glaring dazzle can be contained.

Stepping up from Exclusive to Pinnacle trim grade adds Mercedes luxury like Burmester surround sound, leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof and surround view camera system for $2,550.

Better ride quality, more power and less tailpipe emissions along with better standard features between EQB and GLB. A good GLB overall, except for the range. for now.
