Ram recalls 1.2 million pickup trucks for unintentional tailgate opening

Stellantis, the parent company of Ram trucks, has announced a recall for 2019-2022. Ram 1500 pickup truck, as well as the Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty trucks, NHTSA revealed on Tuesday. If the bolts that hold the tailgate in the up position are misaligned, the tailgate will not latch and may flap open while driving or parking.

NHTSA says that if the tailgate latches unlatched, cargo could spill onto the roadway and pose a hazard to other vehicles. The recall covers 1,234,657 trucks manufactured by June 1, 2022 for heavy trucks and by July 10, 2022 for Ram 1500.

Ram identified 736 warranty claims and 101 field reports worldwide related to this issue. The dealer will inspect the striker bolt position and adjust if necessary. The owner will not be billed and any owner who previously paid for the repair service will be reimbursed. Ram will send an email notification as early as he can on January 27, 2023.
