BMW Group to produce next-generation BEV in China from 2026

At the same time, the BMW Group has started construction of a 6th generation power battery production expansion project in the city. The project involves a total investment of 10 billion yuan and a planned area of ​​240,000 square meters.

The BMW Group announced in November last year that its Chinese joint venture BMW Brilliance would invest around 10 billion yuan to expand its battery production facilities at its Shenyang manufacturing site, as part of its efforts to accelerate the transition to electrification.

The new investment deal follows a major upgrade phase of BMW’s production site in Shenyang, with both the Dadong expansion plant and the 15 billion yuan Lidia plant scheduled to open in the first half of 2022. Together with the opening of the iFACTORY Lydia plant, the new battery production project will further strengthen BMW’s BEV production capacity in China.

BMW Brilliance’s battery production facility was commissioned in 2017. The facility is the first of its kind built by a global luxury car manufacturer and will be expanded in 2020 with the completion of Phase 2.
