2025 Volvo EX30, Ram 1500 top this week’s new car reviews

Committed planners might be looking ahead to 2024 to save dates in the social calendar, but automakers always exceed even the most ambitious planners when it comes to the year ahead. We’re already covering the 2025 model year with seven weeks to go in 2023, with deliveries of those models expected for midway through 2024.

This forward planning, or time manipulation, dates back nearly a century, as a way to allow time to ramp up production of a new car and deliver it to dealers by the new calendar year. In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt codified the practice with one of many Great Depression-era executive orders to protect autoworkers from being idled before the holidays during a model year factory makeover.

Here’s a look forward to a few 2025s, some 2024s, and everything that moved us this week.

2025 Volvo EX30 review

It’s a good, affordable electric hatchback with up to 275 miles of range, but its SUV credentials are thin, and those used to Volvo’s recent luxury vibe won’t find that here. It earns a TCC Rating of 7.5 out of 10.

2025 Ram 1500 preview

The redesigned Ram 1500 pickup truck now comes in three variants, including a gas truck with three engine options, a plug-in series hybrid known as the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, and a Ram 1500 REV electric truck.

2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron review

The Q8 E-Tron shows that electric vehicles don’t have to look so different versus their gasoline counterparts, and it excels in comfort, features, and safety for an overall rating of 8.3 out of 10.

2024 Volvo XC90 review

Now entering what’s likely to be its final model year before a revamp, the 2024 Volvo XC90 remains an appealing three-row luxury SUV with a TCC Rating of 7.5 out of 10.

2024 BMW X4 review

Sleek, fun, and remarkably balanced, the 2024 BMW X4 is a style-forward small SUV with a TCC Rating of 6.4 out of 10.

2024 Honda Odyssey review

The 2024 Honda Odyssey is a great value for a minivan and a practical pick overall, dragged down by subpar fuel economy. It’s a 6.3 out of 10.

2024 Infiniti QX50 review

Infiniti’s entry-level crossover SUV has pleasant styling and an appealing base price, though its powertrain underwhelms and its twin-screen infotainment can frustrate. It’s a 6.2.

2024 Ford Mustang review

The Ford Mustang enters a new generation with modern connectivity and traditional V-8 power. It earns a TCC Rating of 5.8 out of 10. 2025 Volvo EX30, Ram 1500 top this week’s new car reviews
