Rosenqvist leads McLaren in qualifying 1-2

With just over an hour left in the six-hour session, Rosenqvist set the fastest four-lap average at 233.947 mph and boasted a fastest single lap of 234.329 mph.

“That was a phenomenal run,” he said. “I wasn’t very happy with my first run, so I trimmed the car, but I didn’t expect it to be this fast. It put a smile on my face.”

The battle for the last spot on Fast 12

The main objective of the six-hour qualifying was to finish in the top 12 so that drivers could move into Sunday’s Fast 12 session to determine the first four rows of the starting grid.

Immediately after the halfway point of the session, Kanaan’s four-lap average was 2:34.7591, tying 1/10,000th of a second for 12th, alongside Ed Carpenter.but Kyle Kirkwood (Andretti) held off both at 232.662 mph and scored a key transfer spot with 90 minutes remaining.

Kanaan moved up to fifth on the late flyer at 233.347 mph, pushing Kirkwood out and putting power into the bubble. “I’m too old for this man,” Kanaan said jokingly.

Carpenter ran again, nearly grazing the Turn 4 wall at 232.689 mph, but narrowly missed hitting power. “I had one awkward downshift, but it was that hard,” he lamented.

Battle to Avoid Last Chance Qualifiers

The drama at the bottom of the speed chart revolved around the following quartet. I feel like crying a little bit. I might have cried a little bit,” he admitted with relief.

Canapino himself came closest to crashing today after clipping hard on the wall on the exit of Turn 1, bending his right rear suspension. “It was my mistake because the wind caused a lot of understeer,” said Canapino, who was back on the field safely after 26
