Porsche says 911 Dakar can catch up with original GT3

The car uses the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine as the 911 Carrera GTS, producing 473 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. “The GTS is the sweet spot in the 911 line-up,” Moser explained when asked why Porsche chose this particular powertrain for the Dakar. As for whether Porsche can build a faster version, Moser has left it open to interpretation.

“We are limited from the factory, 2,500 units are more than we have made Former special edition carBut we’ll see how customers react.”

I’d love to see a 911 Dakar with the 640 hp engine of the 911 Turbo S, but the GTS’ power seems more than adequate for off-road use. According to Moser, the Dakar will feature special upgrades compared to the standard Carrera GTS, such as “the Turbo S’s cooling system” and “specific all-wheel drive software.”
