Pogačar wins 22km solo attack in Stage 2 of Slovenia

Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) won the second stage. Slovenia tour Between Zalec and Celje on Thursday.

Pogačar attacked near the summit of Svetina, but no one could follow the Slovenes who had gained an advantage in the final 2 km climb towards the finish line.

He crossed the line after a 22-kilometer solo ride and won his seventh victory in 2021 by 1 minute and 22 seconds.

“This stage was already two years ago and was even harder than it is today,” Pogačar said after the stage. “I felt so good that I tried to fully open the gas on the climb. There was a gap and after the descent I was able to fill up the gas and finish.

“I like this stage very much. It’s a classic for racing. I tried it today and it was successful. I didn’t think it would give me such an advantage. I’m really happy to win this time.”

on Friday, Riders reach various third stages from Brežice to Krško and climb in three categories.
