New Record Set by the Fastest Manual Nissan R34 GT-R in the World

While classic Nissan Skyline GT-Rs are a rare sight in the U.S., they are much more common in Australia. The country boasts a vibrant GT-R scene, thanks to the variety of Skylines Nissan sold locally and the ease of importing models directly from Japan.

In late May, the Sydney Dragway hosted the annual GT-R Festival, drawing some of Australia’s finest Nissans. Extensively modified GT-Rs are a staple in Australia, but some of the event’s headliners showcased such impressive power and speed that they redefine what the iconic Godzilla can achieve.

Among the standout vehicles at the festival was an R34 GT-R known as ‘RHM.’ Built by B2R Motorsport in Sydney, this GT-R has been setting new benchmarks for manual transmission GT-Rs over the past few years. Originally equipped with a 2.6-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, the RHM now features a significantly larger 3.4-liter stroked motor, fully built and paired with a massive turbocharger.

The result is a staggering 1,800 horsepower at the wheels, surpassing even the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport’s 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine. At the GT-R Festival, the RHM set a new world record for an R34 GT-R with a manual transmission, completing the quarter-mile in just 7.93 seconds. For context, the flagship Chiron takes 9.4 seconds to cover the same distance.

The video from the event highlights not only the RHM GT-R but also numerous other impressive GT-Rs. The R32 and R34 generation models, in particular, were well-represented, demonstrating the potential of Nissan’s legendary RB engine. Despite being around 20 years old, these cars have been tuned and modified to compete with even the most advanced hypercars.

The Sydney Dragway event underscores the enduring appeal and performance capabilities of the Nissan GT-R. It shows that with the right modifications, these classic cars can still hold their own against the latest and greatest in automotive engineering. The RHM GT-R’s record-setting run is a testament to the incredible potential that lies within these iconic vehicles, proving that they remain a force to be reckoned with on the drag strip.
