Purdy’s GMS Racing team said in a statement Thursday that Purdy was positive on Wednesday afternoon and was experiencing mild symptoms.
Xfinity series regular AJ Allmendinger fills Purdy with the 23rd Chevrolet of the track series race at Glen on Saturday.
“We look forward to a steady recovery in Chase and participation in the next event in the series at Gateway’s World Wide Technology Raceway,” the statement said.
21-year-old Purdy struggled with his first full-time season on this year’s track and is ranked 19th in the series rankings without a top 10 finish.
Allmendinger won one NASCAR victory at Glen and his only Cup Series victory on the 2014 season road course.
