Our prayers have finally been answered. Like the new BRZ, the 2022 GR 86 has eliminated the old 2.0-liter naturally aspirated boxer 4 and replaced it with a new 2.4-liter boxer engine. This also does not use a supercharger. Toyota evaluates the engine with 231 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. This is well above the 205hp and 156lb-ft ratings of the output models. The torque operates at 3,700 rpm, which is significantly higher than 6,400 rpm for outgoing cars. From 0 mph to 62 mph it takes 6.3 seconds and is reduced by 1.1 seconds.
The purchaser can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The latter has a new sport mode. Power is supplied only to the rear wheels. Keeping the car lightweight and maintaining a low center of gravity is essential, and Toyota has managed this with a number of lightweight methods such as aluminum roofs, fenders and mufflers. The total weight of the curb (for the manual model) is 2,799 lbs, a slight increase from its predecessor, 2,624 lbs.
